Our Story

Make A Scene is an award-winning theatre education company dedicated to broadening cultural experiences for young people. Our work inspires creativity and engages students in the shared magic of theatre, maintaining the rich tradition of Commedia dell’Arte while encouraging an evolution of the form that’s accessible, inclusive and uniquely Australian.

Make A Scene had its humble beginnings in the early noughties, when future founder and Artist Director Rosa Campagnaro studied Commedia dell’Arte in its Italian heartland, Venice! Inspired to share Commedia back in Australia, she returned home and began teaching workshops in schools with her suitcase of homemade plaster masks!

By 2010 Make A Scene was officially established, and we were now pairing exciting Commedia performances with our new and improved range of engaging workshops (now with traditional leather masks!), and expanding into both metro and regional schools across the country.

Although 2020 posed enormous challenges for the Arts in general, it also marked an exciting milestone for Make A Scene – our ten year anniversary! During our first decade we’ve notched up six shows, two Currency Press publications, two Drama Victoria awards – and thousands of audience members, both young and young-at-heart, who have delighted in our work.

We’re excited about the next chapter, and we invite you to share our Commedia magic with your students!
